Life as an empath

Hi there.  My name is Rob and I wanted to give you an introduction to myself that would sort of explain who and what I am.  I am an intuitive empath.  To explain what that means, I will tell you a little story about what happened to me on my first day in Chicago back in December of 1983.

My wife at the time, needed to be in Illinois for some family business so I had asked my company if I could have a transfer and it was granted.  We were staying in the small town of Elgin about 25 miles west of Chicago.  After spending a couple of weeks in Elgin getting settled into our new digs, I had to go into Chicago for my interview.

It was an absolutely beautiful winter day in the Windy City.  Not only did I get the job I wanted, but I got the hours I wanted and more money than I had been making in California doing the same job.  I felt like I was on top of the world and decided to take a little walk before I headed back to Elgin for the evening.

I was walking down Michigan avenue and stopped on a bridge that looked out over Lake Michigan.  I was just enjoying the view when all of a sudden I get hit with a blow of overwhelming grief and sadness, anger and hate, and other emotions to varied to identify at the time.  It was like Obi-Wan Kenobi said referring to the Destruction of Alderaan : "I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

I shook my head a few times and then walked a little farther until I came to a plaque that said that below was the original site of Fort Dearborn, which was the small community that would eventually become Chicago.  I had no idea of the history of the are as I had been there only a short while, but I knew that I wanted to know more.  What I found out was this:

"The Battle of Fort Dearborn (also known as the Fort Dearborn Massacre) was an engagement between United States troops and Potawatomi Indians that occurred on August 15, 1812, near Fort Dearborn in what is now Chicago, Illinois, but was then part of the Illinois Territory. The battle, which occurred during the War of 1812, followed the evacuation of the fort as ordered by William Hull, commander of the United States Army of the Northwest.

The battle lasted only about 15 minutes and resulted in a complete victory for the Indians. Fort Dearborn was burned down and those soldiers and settlers that survived were taken captive. Some were later ransomed. After the war, however, settlers continued to seek to enter the area, the fort was rebuilt in 1816." - Wikipedia.

I had known that I had the ability to feel other people's emotions but to feel the emotions of hundreds of people who had lived, and died, over a hundred and forty years before I was born was a trip.  But it happened.  What do you think?  I look forward to your comments.  Thank you for reading.
